Catfish Tagging Adds Incentive For Anglers

As proclaimed by Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Arkansas Hunting and Fishing Week runs this year from Sept. 19-26 and Arkansas Hunting and Fishing Day is Sept. 26.

Just in time, a pandemic-delayed catfish tagging program gives anglers a chance to land some prizes along with their prized fish. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Family and Community Fishing Program (FCFP) was scheduled to tag catfish in late spring and early summer, but now that the process is back underway, those who want to cast a line may real in one of the specially tagged fish.

Three grand prize winners will be drawn from the returned tags and will receive a half-day guided fishing trip on Beaver Lake with JT Crappie Guide Services. The promotion runs Sept. 15-Oct. 31, and the drawing will be held on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Facebook page on Nov. 5 at 10 a.m.

All anglers returning one of the fluorescent green tags will receive a fishing tackle prize.

There are 47 ponds or fishing locales on the FCFP roster, with 10 tags per pond.
