Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Fundraiser Slated for Mid-September

The Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation (AGFF) will host its annual fundraiser, the South Arkansas Outdoor Social, this year on the weekend of September 16th and 17th.

The AGFF is a non-profit founded in 1972 that “is dedicated to providing creative opportunities to develop young Arkansans' interests in fishing and hunting, in informing and educating the public on a variety of issues important to the future of hunting, fishing, and wildlife conservation and in supporting other related programs in Arkansas.”

The events planned for the weekend include a trap shooting tournament, a fishing derby, and live music. The fundraiser will be hosted on the campus of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.

The fishing derby will open the weekend’s festivities on Friday the 16th from 5-7 PM. This derby is absolutely free to enter, and there will be fishing equipment available to loan for free on-site. The AGFF will distribute prizes to the winner of the derby, which is open to anyone with a valid fishing license. Anglers under 16 can participate if accompanied by a licensed participant over 16.

The Farmer’s Bank & Trust Trapshooting Range will host the trapshooting tournament on Saturday the 17th. The tournament begins at 8 AM for 5-person teams who must pay $100 to enter the tournament. Advanced registration for the shooting tournament is required and information about how to sign up is here.

There will also be a 50/50 money shoot with a $20/person entry fee, and on-site concessions. In addition to the competitions, organizers will also host a silent auction to benefit the AGFF. The deadline to register for the trapshooting tournament is September 12, 2022.

Finally, the Red Dirt Country Concert will close the event out on Saturday night around 7 PM with the Drew Fish Band and Saints Eleven. The concert will be at the SAU Alumni Center. There will be $5 hot dogs, chips, and drinks for the derby and tournament. The wristband fee for the concert will be $30 and will also have a concession stand.

All proceeds from the event go to the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation.

The AGFF is active in the southern Arkansas region and is known for its annual fundraising events as well as its annual fishing tournament, the Commissioner’s Cup.

The AGFF is also hosting another event in late August, the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame Banquet. This year the banquet will be held on August 27th at the Statehouse Convention Center at 6 PM.

The Hall of Fame Banquet is an annual event that is meant to recognize Arkansas locals who have contributed to the expansion and improvement of Arkansas Parks and Fishing. The AGFF has been hosting the event since 1992 but is returning for the first time from a 2-year COVID hiatus.

Aug 25, 2022 - You can reserve your tickets and table, as well as take a look at the items which will be available during the silent auction, on the AGFF’s website.
